The international Coach Federation defines coach as:
“Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential”A professional coach helps a person dream big, set well- defined goals and achieve them in the most efficient and easy way
Each one of us has full potential and all the resources needed to achieve the goals that we set for ourselves. Life coaching enables us to get in touch with these resources, while getting the answers from within to the powerful questions asked by the coach.
Many successful leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, executives and CEOs, sportsmen, artists, teenagers, home makers are opting for life coaching to transform their lives and achieve their personal and professional goals.
In coaching sessions we don’t work on past traumas. Life coaches are not necessarily trained psychotherapists.
Coaching is a solution based, future focused intervention, to support client achieve their personal or professional goals. Most of these clients are healthy individuals, wanting to bring changes in some areas of their lives, overcome challenges, make important decisions, identifying their core values and principals, etc.
However sometimes during the coaching process therapy might be suggested. For example, if client wants to take a business to another level and decides to create and deliver presentations, but is unable to do so because of fear of public speaking, therapy can be the option to overcome the fear. Or if during the coaching clients decides to give up smoking and feels a need to get professional help, client might opt for a de-addiction sessions.
Life coach can’t help you with depression or anxiety, unless she/he is a trained psychotherapist. In such cases, both coach and the client have to step out from their coaching roles and set up different sessions for therapy purposes.
Ask these questions to yourself. It will help you to find out where you are, where you want to be and how important is this shift for you.
This depends whether you want to work on big or small goals. Small goals will require few sessions, and bigger goals might take up to 6 month, 2-3 sessions a month.
Outcome of life coaching is your goal achievement and the personal growth you experience while on this journey; you become a person with clear direction and purpose, moving forward in life leveraging your full potential.
